I deployed to Iraq in 2003. I have not forgotten what that year asked of the people I served with, or what it asked of the families waiting on them back home. Most of the country moved on; the people who carried it did not get that option.
So when a veteran calls this kennel about a puppy, that call is different for me. You are not a lead in a pipeline. How do you verify service? Do I need to show proof?
Quickly and respectfully. Any standard proof of service works: a VA card, a state veteran ID, a DD-214, or a military ID. The owner served, so this is a minute of courtesy between people who have been there, not a paperwork process.
I am still serving. Does the discount apply to active duty?
Ask us. The program as written covers veterans and disabled veterans, but if you are currently serving, do not let that stop you from calling. We are not going to treat you worse for still wearing the uniform.
